Point of Echoes
Acclaimed director/choreographer Ben Wright’s intimate tale of lighthouse keepers designed especially for village halls, receives its world premiere in Warwickshire.
Created as a collaboration between director/choreographer Ben Wright and musician/writer Stuart Warwick, Point of Echoes is a haunting tale of love, death and monsters, set on a lighthouse somewhere of the coast of England.
The year is 1978. Isolated from the mainland, the unlikely strangers Eric Valentine and Bernard Humphries have just begun to lay down foundations for their odd working relationship when a mysterious figure enters their lives and the uncanny occurs. Hovering at the boundary between dance and theatre, this amazing nautical tale blends the whimsical tones of a Wes Anderson movie with the uncanny dread of The Twilight Zone.
Point of Echoes is the first commission from the Rural Touring Dance Initiative (RTDI), a project designed to boost the amount of contemporary dance on offer in rural communities, and is especially designed to be performed in village halls. Point of Echoes marks the return of bgroup’s Ben Wright to the UK following three years spent in Sweden as Associate Director of Skånes Dansteater.
Speaking about the commission Ben Wright said: ‘After spending the last three years creating dance predominately for the large-scale in Sweden, this invitation to create work for UK village halls has beguiled my entire creative team. The rural touring circuit offers us a unique opportunity to meet and engage people up close and on their turf. To bring a little bit of epic to smaller spaces. Our pilot shows were tremendous fun and we are incredibly excited to now officially premiere the work in the Spring.’
Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire audiences are invited to attend the world premiere of bgroup’s Point of Echoes at St Chads Centre, Bishops Tachbrook on Friday 09 February at 7.30pm. Shake off the winter chill and prepare for an evening of wonder as you are swept away from the cosy surroundings of St Chads Centre to the remote Echo Point lighthouse. This is an amazing opportunity to experience world-class dance-theatre performed in a local rural Warwickshire venue.
These shows are presented by the Live & Local Rural & Community Touring Scheme, the Rural Touring Dance Initiative, bgroup and China Plate.
