New permanent cycle parking in Royal Leamington Spa

New cycle parking infrastructure is being installed in Royal Leamington Spa town centre to provide safe and accessible places for visitors to securely park their bikes.

The infrastructure improvements, aimed at supporting and encouraging sustainable travel, will see two covered ‘FalcoRail’ shelters installed in Chandos Street car park later this month, providing secure cycle parking for up to 18 bikes and 2 cargo bikes. Permanent Sheffield parking stands are also being installed in Victoria Park for up 20 bikes, 1 cargo bike and 9 children’s scooters.

The existing cycle parking provision at Chandos Street will be removed to make way for the new shelters, so there will be a brief period during the construction where cycle parking is not available, but disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Alternative cycle parking is available nearby on the Parade outside Tesco, at various stands along Warwick Street and on Newbold Terrace.

Warwick District Council is liaising with Warwickshire County Council’s Transport Planning team to look at the potential for further cycle parking infrastructure across the District. This is in light of the County Council’s recently published consultation on their local cycling and walking infrastructure plan.

Residents can also be rewarded for cycling when moving around the District. The Choose How You Move in Warwick District challenge rewards users with BetterPoints for tracking their active travel – whether moving about by foot, wheel, bus, or train. The points can be redeemed on the high street at favourite local stores or donated to charity.
