Notice of A46 closure and lane restrictions from Friday 11 April to Thursday 1 May 2025

High Speed Two (HS2) is the new high-speed railway for Britain. Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) is working in partnership with HS2 Ltd to construct the new high-speed railway in the area.

The Work Being Undertaken

Balfour Beatty will be pushing a new box structure into place to carry the HS2 line beneath the A46 near Kenilworth. Once the box is positioned, the remaining works will be completed, including resurfacing the carriageway, reinstating white lines, and re-installing safety barriers before reopening the A46.

During the construction period, there will be increased activity, continuous 24/7 operations, overnight lighting, and some additional noise. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact on local residents.

Schedule of Works

To ensure workforce safety, a section of the A46 will be closed between the Stivichall Interchange (Festival Island) and the Thickthorn Island (A452 for Leamington and Kenilworth) for 19 days, with an additional three days held as contingency in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Closure Period: 8pm on Friday 11 April until 6am on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Following this, lane closures will remain in place on the northbound and southbound carriageways, with a speed restriction of 50mph until Thursday 31 July.

Should there be a delay in the programme, a contingency period has been scheduled from 8pm on Friday 16 May to 6am on Thursday 5 June.

What to Expect

A fully signposted strategic diversion will be in place for HGVs in the region, along with a local diversion and special access arrangements for the villages of Stoneleigh and Ashow. Further details, including diversion maps, are available on the following pages.

Community Engagement

Residents are invited to attend a community drop-in event at the Kenilworth Centre on Monday 17 March between 2pm and 7pm to learn more about the A46 works.
