North and south bound closure of the A46 – Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November 2021

On the morning of Saturday 27 November at 00:01, both north and south bound carriageways on the A46 are to be closed between Thickthorn island at Kenilworth and Stivichall interchange at Coventry.  This closure will remain in place until the evening of Sunday 28 November, with the official diversion route as shown on the attached plan.

On Saturday morning a 750 tonne capacity crane will arrive and will set up on the A46 north bound carriageway ready for the arrival of the beams from the Middlesbrough area under Police escort later that day.

Upon arrival of the thirty-six metre long beams on the A46 south bound carriageway, they will be lifted across the north bound carriageway and placed on trestles located on the old A46 north bound entry slip road area.

This is a key stage in allowing the construction of the bridge deck to begin offline, a methodology that will reduce the total number of A46 closures required as the scheme progresses.

We expect all lifting of beams and demobilising of the crane to be complete to allow the A46 to be opened in both directions by Sunday evening.
